Websphere 5.0
1. out of the box installer broken for mandrake
but works for redhat 9.1 (Linux version 2.4.20-8 (bhcompile@porky.devel.redhat.com)
(gcc version 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5))
2. A. In the installer, the LaunchPad uses a bundled jdk, this fails
with a segv if "java -version" is run, but if "LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5"
is set then it runs ok (this is what the installer "LaunchPad.sh" does.
B. In the deployed environment (after install) the bundled jvm (ibm?) fails (e.g., when run by "startServer.sh") with a segv unless "LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5" is set.
C. The bundled jdk version is:
java version "1.3.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1)
Classic VM (build 1.3.1, J2RE 1.3.1 IBM build cxia32131-20021107 (JIT enabled:
jitc))
3. sun jdk 1.4.2 works?
4. 32bit redhat 9.1 is not considered "a supported operating system"
Websphere 5.1
1. Trial version "ibmwas5_trial_for_linux.tar.gz" installs fine. Chose
"custom install" and deselected "ibm http svr" and chose "plugin for
apache 2.0" instead.
2. No modifications made to installer script "launchpad.sh"
3. Launch script and jdk version bundled does not require LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
as is required with 5.0
4. Bundled jdk is:
java version "1.4.1"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1)
Classic VM (build 1.4.1, J2RE 1.4.1 IBM build cxia321411-20031011 (JIT
enabled: jitc))
